Five things to decide first.
1. What does the finished project need to do?
Write down its main purpose and the space, storage or everyday problem you want it to solve.
2. Where will it go?
Measure the available area, access and clearances. Check local rules and site conditions before choosing dimensions.
3. What is your full budget?
Allow for materials, hardware, tools, delivery, preparation, approvals and a contingency. The plan price is only one part.
4. What help will you need?
Be realistic about your time and experience. Identify heavy lifts, specialist tasks and any qualified local advice you need.
5. What exactly are you buying?
Read the plan description, file list and measurements. Save the listing details and review the drawings before ordering materials.
